Kharchenko T.B. FUNCTIONING OF FARMS IN UKRAINE: THE STATE AND PROSPECTS OF DEVELOPMENT
Purpose. The aim of the article is to assess the current state of development of Ukrainian farms, in particular the study of their condition, the main trends of development in modern conditions and the definition of promising directions for improving their activities.
Methodology of research. The following methods are used during the study: dialectic, system analysis (for an integrated assessment of the current state of development of farms, including social, economic and resource assessment), synthesis (general principles of efficient functioning of farms are carried out).
Findings. The modern aspects of the functioning of farms in Ukraine are considered. The state and dynamics of changes in the number of farms in recent years have been analyzed. The main problems hindering the development of farming in Ukraine are highlighted. The role of farms in increasing self-employment of rural population, the creation of an effective landowner in the village and the development of social infrastructure of rural areas has been identified. The obstacles to the functioning of farms are identified and the ways of their solution are proposed. The main directions of state support of farms are analyzed and the main problems in this area are determined. It is determined that one of the determining factors of development of farming is the development of organic production.
Originality. The benefits that create the development of organic production are defined as a result of the analysis: the receipt of additional income by farmers; the possibility of access to international markets of certified organic products; reducing the negative impact on the environment through reducing carbon emissions; reducing the risk to the health of agricultural producers and increasing the usefulness of products for consumers; raising the competitiveness of farms and the level of employment of the population, etc.
Practical value. The obtained results are the basis for developing a strategy for the development of farms in Ukraine.
Key words: agriculture; agricultural enterprises; gross output; profitability; land use; organic production; effective landowner.
