Pytuliak M.R. ECOLOGICAL AND ECONOMIC ASSESSMENT OF THE EFFICIENCY OF LAND RESOURCE USE IN THE TERNOPIL REGION AND DIRECTIONS FOR ITS IMPROVEMENT
Purpose. The aim of the article is to assess and analyse the current state of land resource use in Ternopil Oblast, based on a developed model for the ecological and economic evaluation of their exploitation efficiency.
Methodology of research. The methodological framework of the study is based on the provisions of the concept of sustainable development, the ecosystem approach to natural resource management, the theory of rational nature management, and modern concepts of ecological and economic land use assessment. The method of analysis and synthesis was applied to generalize modern theoretical approaches to evaluating the efficiency of land resource use; the systemic approach was used to study land resources as a complex natural-economic system; the statistical method was employed to analyse indicators of the state of land resources and agricultural production volumes; comparative analysis was used to evaluate land resource utilization indicators and identify the main trends in the development of agricultural land use; methods of generalization, grouping, and systematization were used to form a system of indicators for evaluating the efficiency of land resource use and their ecological status; graphical method – for visualizing research results.
Findings. It has been established that the existing land use model ensures a high level of economic return from land resources in the short term; however, it is accompanied by the accumulation of ecological risks. In the future, these risks may lead to a decline in natural soil fertility, increased costs for soil restoration, deterioration of agro-landscape productivity, and growing economic losses in agricultural production. A conceptual model for the ecological and economic assessment of land resource use efficiency has been proposed, which integrates a system of economic and environmental indicators and provides a comprehensive approach to evaluating the state of land use. The main economic and ecological indicators of land resource use efficiency have been systematized.
Originality. The scientific and methodological framework for the ecological and economic assessment of land resource management efficiency has been further developed through the creation of a model based on the integration of interconnected indicator blocks (economic and environmental). Unlike existing approaches, the proposed model ensures a comprehensive evaluation of the current state of land use, enables the timely identification of opportunities to enhance its efficiency, and identifies strategic directions for optimizing land resource management at the regional level.
Practical value. The results of the study, carried out on the basis of the methodology for a comprehensive ecological and economic assessment of land resource use efficiency, can be useful for state authorities, local self-government bodies, territorial communities, and agricultural enterprises for monitoring the efficiency of land resource use, substantiating management decisions, improving the structure of land use, and forming regional policy in the field of land protection.
Key words: land resources, ecological and economic assessment, efficiency of land resource use, land fund, ecological stability.
