Purpose. The aim of the article is the determination of the main causes and leading trends of labour migration, studying the process of motivation of labour migration and outlining the possibilities of introducing potential mechanisms for regulating this process within Ukraine.

Methodology of research. The theoretical basis of the research is the scientific works of domestic and foreign scientists on labour migration, motivation of labour activity and analysis of migration processes. General scientific and special methods and techniques are used in the process of work: analytical – for the collection, compilation and processing of scientific information; abstract and logical – for analysis and systematization of the material; tabular and graphical – for a visual presentation of the theoretical positions and conclusions of the study.

Findings. The main causes of labour migration, with the definition of their groups, depending on the criterion of motivation are investigated. The main tendencies of migration processes in the field of labour relations are revealed. The driving forces of labour migration are determined in the form of a list of social and political, social and economic factors. Positive and negative consequences, depending on the subject of participation in the migration process are grouped. The necessity of creation of an effective mechanism of regulation of labour migration of the population is substantiated. The recommended list of components during the development of the mechanism of regulation of the investigated phenomenon is proposed.

Originality. The author groups the motives of labor migration with the definition of key groups: economic, social, political, military, environmental, as well as a method for assessing the social and economic consequences of labour migration through the prism of the subjects of the process. In addition, further development of scientific substantiation for the need to develop an effective mechanism for regulating the labour migration process, through a number of recommended key components.

Practical value. The study of the motivation of labour migration, its causes and development trends play a crucial role in analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of this process to create an effective mechanism for its regulation, which will increase the positive effects and minimize the negative impact at all levels.
